This was a first for us, incorporating a huge horse into a photo session, but we knew we HAD to do it! Why? Because our bride Kellyn is quite the equestrian. This barn is very special & located on their estate in Waxhaw. They board their horses here and her mom cares for many of the horses daily. This is her award winning boy, Cody.

Sometimes living in Charlotte you forget how vast, beautiful and quiet the country is.....it was stunning.

After a little fashion/hair/makeup with The Look, we began our shoot with our friend and photog, Tara Mauldin.

Everything was working for us. The sun, the energy, the love, the beauty - EVERYTHING!

Everyone has been begging us to post this video.

We had a surprise 35 person live choir sing at one of our October weddings, as the bridal party and new bride and groom entered the reception. It was amazing - so POWERFUL!

Voices of Eden is their name and they are the BEST to work with...we'll definitely be using them again.

Today we are writing about an UBER important cause. Cortenay and Heather both serve on the inaugural board for the Carolinas' Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding.

We would like to formally invite YOU and ALL of your friends and family to attend the 1st annual Fundraising Gala at the Ritz Carlton on Friday, November 12th.

In order to attend or participate with WUW, you do NOT have to be connected in any way with the wedding industry.

You just need to be a caring person who loves a charitable cause and wants to give back.

What is WUW?

Wish Upon a Wedding is the world’s first nonprofit wish granting organization providing weddings and vow renewals for couples facing terminal illness and serious life-altering circumstances regardless of sexual orientation. Our organization offers couples a chance to enjoy a very special day, without any thoughts of existing health or other serious issues, while surrounded by their closest family and friends.

By celebrating the courage & spirit of these couples, we help create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come. It is our hope that others facing similar situations will find hope, strength, and the promise of eternal love.

Officially launched in January of 2010, Wish Upon a Wedding currently has over a dozen chapters to serve Wish Applicants. We service couples residing in or wishing to get married within 300 miles of any one of our chapter locations.

Ticket Information:

Tickets for the gala are $100 and include the following: entry ticket, cocktail hour, plated dinner, wine service with dinner (full bar avail), swag bag, & silent auction. We also have a discounted rate with the Ritz Carlton and only $179/night. Wow.

I think one thing every vendor strives for are solid referrals. There is nothing sweeter than getting a call from a prospective client whose friend or family member was {or is} a client of ours.

We got a message from one of our favorite past clients {Sarah Clark Hopfer} saying that her girlfriend and bridesmaid Kelsey was giving us a call as she just got engaged.

We met with Kelsey, her fiance' John, and her fabulous mother Tippy. During the consult, they said they weren't sure the direction they were going with the wedding, but they knew they wanted us to take them there......We were beyond thrilled.

We've only been working together a week, yet we have already personalized their 3 page budget, set a June date and secured a venue!!

CWD thinks that photography should be at the TOP of your list when choosing wedding vendors and when budgeting. These pics are great examples of 'why' we feel that way. It takes true talent to capture what you see below and the photos are with you for a lifetime. Some photographers stage things a little too much and make the subjects feel like characters, which may be fun at the moment but most clients regret the intense 'staging' once they see the photos, especially a few years down the road. Choose someone who truly captures your personality and focuses on YOUR personality, not theirs.

We're heading out to 1st Baptist Church to begin the rehearsal for Miss Carlin Gallman and Mr. Hart Turner. We've worked with this couple for almost a year and have truly enjoyed every minute! Tomorrow after the nuptials we'll party until midnight at Bentley's on 27.

She's this tiny little blonde bombshell with crystal blue eyes, and Hart is this tall, muscular, handsome football player that's a teddy bear when he's around her....perfect match! We've have the pleasure of working with Carlin's mom, Syliva, on much of the wedding - she has been so much fun too and truly adores her daughter. It's precious.

I will miss you guys and wish you the BEST in life's next chapter. Marriage is a beautiful thing and I know you'll love it! Hugs......HGB

CWD has two weddings this weekend! Cortenay will be down in Fort Mill at a private estate and Heather will be at the Wachovia Atrium uptown. Happy Wedding Weekend to Leslie Brown & Clayton Galindo AND to Katie Connell & Adam Schnug! Here's just a tad of info about wedding day details for both couples.

Leslie & Clayton's wedding day will be filled with beautiful citrus colors at Clayton's parents' estate. Tents are set up along with portable restrooms... we can't wait to set up the rest of the details tomorrow. This will be a FUN celebration full of citrus colors such as yellow, green and orange. We have a few fun surprises planned for all of their guests. Can't wait... congrats Leslie and Clayton!

Katie & Adam's will be showing the 'city' to their guests throughout their wedding reception at the Wachovia Atrium uptown with lots of city scapes and unknown facts about Charlotte. This couple, from Hickory, loves music and a good party... and have the perfect band in place! Congrats Katie & Adam... it's going to be a blast!

Our Sex and the City 2 extravaganza was a huge success! 100 fabulously dressed women attended in order to show support to the local charity Meals on Wheels/Friendship Trays of Charlotte and of course to see the new Sex and the City movie.

The night started with a walk down the hot pink carpet and a photo op, with our lovely photographer Lucy Parker. No night is complete without good food, tasty drinks and a pair of stylish SHOES!!! After a few martinis and finger foods from Eat Here Now, the girls all headed back out to the hot pink carpet to strut their stuff so that we could determine the winners!

Then, it was off to the main event...the MOVIE!!!

It was a great night as we raised hundreds for Friendship Trays!

......honestly warms our heart to read these messages. Caroline and Keith both were very organized themselves, but they quickly learned about all of the tiny, yet uber important, details that come along with planning a wedding....even the 'simple weddings'.

When interviewing planners in the beginning, they knew they wanted to stick to their budget and didn't know if a planner was really necessary. She has told us time and time again, it was the BEST money they spent on the entire wedding. They were also very grateful to see the immediate monetary savings that we were able to pass along to them from other vendors.

We hope all of the other planners out there love their clients as much as we love ours!

It's finally here....the BIG wedding day! This pair of sweethearts has been planning this weekend for a year. CWD is thrilled to be a part of the day!

The day starts with hair & make-up, then a short trip on the trolley to the University City United Methodist Church for the ceremony. Their wedding day wraps up with a gorgeous reception at Byron's Southend. We'll be posting pictures as soon as we receive them by the fabulous Critsey Rowe!

What do you get when you cross a hot zoo, a madly in love couple, a backdrop of a plethora of species, a killer photographer, and a road trip full of karaoke sing-alongs?? This one of a kind eSession!

Lydia, Jeremy and I packed up the car on Good Friday and headed to Asheboro Zoo. A little lunch at the infamous Lexington BBQ? YES PLEASE. With our bellies full, we progressed to Zoo Parkway......where we found just that......a 'park-way' as there was no movement on that road. Bumper to bumper traffic. After finally arriving and witnessing, literally, the most popular day at the zoo for the year, we chatted and decided it was way too crowded and hot (about 93 degrees) to try and conquer the shoot. So we rescheduled....which only meant more sing-alongs in the car and completely RANDOM conversations!! (nuclear, 'revelant', idear, and whistle tips to name a few) This couple makes me cackle laughing - it's priceless. I adore Lydia....but I also adore Jeremy!! He's easy on the eyes, has the best sense of humor, and takes care of his woman! I love it. He had even practiced his different 'looks' for the shoot....Jeremy you're a mess.

Take Two Zoo Trip = MUCH better circumstances. Perfect weather, nice breeze, minimal crowds and a very relaxed couple. We all truly had so much fun. I believe we shot for four hours! (Which typical eSessions last 2 hours or less). Have we mentioned how much our photog rocks?

She worked her tooshie off to capture the most detailed and exotic photos for us. I do have to mention that the animals were most cooperative that day as well - they knew it was their moment to shine. =)

What a beautiful wedding weekend for Catherine (aka Cat) and Ray on the weekend of April 23rd-25th!

A beautiful, large white tent was the setting in the backyard of Cat & Ray's home in Weddington for the rehearsal dinner on Friday and post wedding brunch on Sunday. Saturday night as the couple danced the night away at their reception at the Ballantyne Hotel & Lodge, some of our CWD team went back to the Wetherington Estate to hang the tent walls as an intense storm fast approached. In wanting to make sure we kept the ground and decor dry under the tent for Sunday's events, we drenched ourselves and hung about 30 tent walls as quickly as two people could possibly hang them in the dark......and we're pretty sure we heard a neighboring coyote in woods which outlined the property looking for a dry place to sleep. THAT was motivation enough to hang quickly!

Thank you to the team of vendors who worked together to create a perfect weekend for Cat & Ray! Also, thanks to Richard Israel for sending over pictures of their wedding weekend to share with you all!

We had a blast walking the hot pink carpet, posing at the step & repeat with our FAB Sarah Jessica Parker banner, hosting the exciting shoe contest, giving out tons of door prizes, sipping delicious martinis created for each SATC gal, sampling tons of awesome food, dancing to the DJ, & admiring the glamorous decor, linens and lighting ... AND we were able to raise a significant amount of money for Friendship Trays- Meals on Wheels!

When Cat and I ‘first’ met during the initial consult, we both had the feeling that we had met somewhere before… turns out we worked together back in the day at Marriott City Center. What a small world!

Cat contracted us (CWD) to come in 4 weeks prior to wedding day to execute all the details for their wedding weekend including the rehearsal dinner, wedding day (ceremony at St. Mary’s Chapel & reception at Ballantyne Hotel) and post wedding brunch.

They have put together a three-day wedding weekend designed to give their guests an outstanding, top-notch getaway surrounded by family and friends. Cat and Ray have also chosen some of Charlotte’s best vendors who are ready to execute the plan that will surely be a weekend to remember!

Wish Upon a Wedding | the Carolinas Chapter

We are extremely humbled and excited to be the Event Planning Co-Chairs of the Carolinas Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding. This is a new non-profit in the Carolinas, and is the world's first non-profit wedding wish granting organization. (full description below)

The first board meeting was yesterday, and it was inspiring to see the energy from the other board members as we are all so ready to 'give back'. I encourage you to check out the site in detail.

Keep in mind, although most of the board members are involved in the wedding industry, this idea is much more broad. ANYONE can be involved. We needs tons of volunteers and donors, as this takes a team to execute. For example, if a terminal wish is granted, the wedding typically occurs within THREE days. You can imagine how much work goes into those 3 days. Just as the AHA, or Komen, or LLS, we will be reaching out to area businessmen and women, hospitals, bankers, and other companies to gain support. If you would like to contribute in ANY way, please email info@carolinaweddingdesign.com and we will align you with the proper committee chair.

The LAUNCH PARTY for this fabulous organization is THURSDAY, JUNE 24TH. Details to be published soon, but mark those calendars!

As the World’s first nonprofit wedding wish granting organization, Wish Upon a Wedding provides weddings at destinations across the United States for individuals facing life-threatening illness. It is a chance for couples to enjoy a very special day, without any thoughts of existing health issues, while surrounded by their closest family and friends. By celebrating the courage & spirit of these couples, we help create lasting memories that will be cherished for years to come. It is our hope that others facing similar situations will find hope, strength, and the promise of eternal love. Officially launched in January of 2010, Wish Upon a Wedding currently has 15 chapters to serve Wish Applicants. We service couples residing in or wishing to get married within 300 miles of any one of our chapter locations.

Alexander Youth Network

We just attended a lunch at the Westin that was a yearly fundraiser for the Alexander Youth Network. Not knowing much about the organization, we were definitely interested to hear more....and wow...what touching stories. Stories of abuse, neglect and turmoil - whether emotional, mental, or physical, or all of the above. Kids that have been to over a dozen foster homes before they are 10....stories of kids that have lived on their own before they are a teenager, having no one to turn to. Stories of a child being shackled to the bed in a hotel room for hours/days as his parents left to hustle drugs and who knows what else.....stories of how that same child witnessed his mother overdose on drugs and because he was shackled to the bed, could do nothing about it...not even reach the phone to call 911. That same young boy who I just described was able to participate in the Alexander Youth Network system, and recently visited them to show them what he had done with his life.....now, a marine serving and protecting our country. What a story.

I urge you to educate yourself about this organization, and others of the like. I often take for granted the fact that I grew up in a loving and caring home with 2 parents and never wanted for food, clothing or shelter.

Everyone on this planet deserves a chance, especially small children who are under the controls and constraints of parents that are lacking proper parenting skills.

It was our honor to monetarily donate to this life changing cause and we hope to soon volunteer there.

Life is too short to wait to make a difference. Won't you consider giving back today?

We've been looking forward to and planning this day for months and months now and it's finally here!!! (I'm pretty sure we'll be sad tomorrow when it's over!)

Jess and Oteil definitely let us utilize creative juices on this one and it's definitely not your 'cookie cutter' wedding. Lots of sultry deep splashes and reds and purples....hanging floral garlands....TONS of Moroccan lanterns....we are just so thrilled to bring their vision and hopes to actual reality. He was also the guest of honor and speaker at a past Charlotte NACE/ISES Bridal Luncheon for brides and vendors. In creating this special luncheon, he was absolutely amazing to work with! This morning was the first ever Bridal Body Boot Camp as CWD teamed up with Anna Kooiman of GetFitCharlotte.com! You may also recognize her as a co-host on FOX News Rising morning show which we all love.

Even on a holiday weekend, bright and early in the morning, we had a dozen gals come out to exercise in the beautiful Charlotte weather. What better way to prepare for your bridal gown (& swimsuit weather) than to workout in the sunshine with other relatable & energetic females!

We started our workout with a mile run, followed by many rounds of turbo kick, cardio funk, and relay drills. Two hours later we were worn out (yet still laughing and smiling) and ready for some Cracker Barrel......JUST KIDDING Anna! We didn't go!

All participants received a Shakeology goody bag and CWD donated BeachBody items that were given out to the ladies who did the most pushups in 60 seconds...(congrats Natalie in 1st place!) GetFitCharlotte was generous to donate the grand prize (two work out videos) to the client who brought the most guests with her....(congrats Lydia Nims!)

Be sure to check out Anna's site here. She's an amazing trainer (AFAA Group Exercise certified) with lots of patience, energy and smiles. If you've ever taken classes at the Dowd or Harris YMCAs, I'm sure you've seen her around or perhaps even taken one of her classes.

We'll definitely be hosting more Boot Camps...this was the 1st of many...some will even be CO-ED so get ready to grab your groom, new hubby, brother, or father and bring them along!

This amazing couple will be man and wife tomorrow at sunset (at the Palisades Country Club) and we are thrilled to be a part of their day! Having the pleasure of working with them previously with her sister's wedding, needless to say our relationship is definitely personal and I truly consider her a friend.

NACE insight for March

Last week we teamed up with Pam Bailey of Flowers from the Cellar to design the March NACE meeting which was held on top of the pool at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Southpark. This pool cover (provided by Pleat Systems) was the coolest. I have to admit, my first steps on the pool cover were quite slow and soft, but before you knew it we were all walking across the 'water' with confidence.

I got the linens from our gal pals over at Connie Duglin Linens....LOVED them with the sashes! Tenting provided by Classic Party Rentals. Soft seating provided by American Furniture Rentals.

Happy Wedding Weekend to

Georgia & Paul!

This fabulous couple signed on with us in November and we've had a ball serving as their full service planner.

Georgia is a gal who knows what she likes and we've made this ceremony and reception very indicative of her and Paul's infectious personalities. This young couple is SO in love, it's precious!

St. Matthew's Chapel is the setting for the noon ceremony, followed by lunch and LOTS of dancing at the Ballantyne Country Club. We'll post some snapshots on Monday...and then of course the fabulous pro shots (via Tommy McCart Photography) in a couple weeks.

I couldn't blog about this couple without mentioning the MOB, and my new friend, Marye Jo. This is a mother who cares for her daughter like you can't imagine. She (and the FOB Greg) would give Georgia the world if she could, and if there was a mold for an MOB who showed respect, patience, support, and love for a daughter, it's Marye Jo.

MJ, you definitely win an MOB award....you've been so great to work with and Georgia is lucky to have a mother like you. You better not lose my phone number!

I just had to share this sweet message from one of our Mend the End clients, Sarah Clark.

Her March 27th wedding is just around the corner and this morning we met with her to gather all of her contracts, photos, sketches, etc to execute the Mend the End package for her.

I also had the privilege of being the planner for her sister's wedding in June of 2008....this is an amazing family that loves to laugh and have a good time.

I just adore them and feel honored to be chosen to work with them again.

I know you do this on a daily basis and my wedding is on the smaller side, but I have just got to take a minute to say THANK YOU. It was great to see you this morning & hand everything over. I now have a huge sense of relief like okay this is going to be perfect and Heather will take care of it. If I could go back to the beginning of the wedding planning and change anything, it would be to have you be our "full time" wedding planner and not just the last 30 days. But either way, thank you so much. I am so excited that you get to be a part of our special day and have such a peace of mind that it is all going to go smoothly (and if it doesn't, I won't even know!).

Chameleon Chairs! CWD Inside Peek!

Ok, we just got home from another fabulous NACE meeting. (National Assoc of Catering Executives). The NACE meetings are held once every month and showcase different venues, caterers, decor, speakers, etc.

Tonight's meeting was at Classic Party Rentals and the spotlight was introducing their new 'Chameleon Chair'!

These chairs are HOT!

They are a trendy item out west in LA, making appearances at all of the Awards shows, and finally have made their debut in Charlotte. Lucky us.

There are so many styles and options to choose from - I don't know which one we will use first! From leather, to animal print, to lace, to ruffles & rosettes.....CWD is IN LOVE.

This is a great option for those brides who want a fabulous chair and want something other than your standard chivari.....which of course we also love.

To all of our girls at CPR, you did a FABULOUS job tonight - the tent and everything else in it looked amazing...great job!

You KNEW this day was coming soon. It falls on the same day every year, so no excuses for not yet having the love of your life her gift yet. Although we frown upon last minute items fellas, CWD has come to your rescue...

Below are ideas that your woman is sure to love.
And whether she says it or not, EVERY woman loves flowers. No need to go overboard with a showy $300 order of long stem roses or anything, just a simple 'thought that counts' type of delivery goes a LONG way. Of course red roses are still the most popular for Cupid's Day...but feel free to go out of the box and order something different! How about a beautiful array of tulips.....or a mixed arrangement of her favorite spring flowers!

Don't feel like you need to plan an over the top dinner or spend hundreds of dollars. Many of us gals just want TIME with our favorite fella. CWD Exclusive: Exit Strategy...Get One!

Have you met with a vendor that you knew right from the start you guys weren't a fit?
Have you sat through an hour long consult with a prospective vendor that you had tuned out 10 mins into the meeting because you knew you didn't want to hire them for your wedding?
Were you scared to leave because you didn't know if your significant other, mother,
MOH etc liked them?

Well, you should probably get what we call, your 'exit strategy'.

Here is a little video explaining what it is with an example from one of our very own clients.
